Nutrition Assistant

About the job

This position supports daily operations of school cafeterias, preparing and serving meals while maintaining safety and sanitation standards. The role requires organizing equipment and workstations, handling food service transactions, and practicing customer-service skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and other meals
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Organize food preparation and set up/close down serving areas
• Manage food inventory, replenish supplies, and operate kitchen equipment
• Handle cashier duties and provide customer service to students and staff
• Follow all USDA, health, and food service regulations

Qualifications

• Knowledge of large-scale food preparation and equipment
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and maintain confidentiality
• Food handler’s certification required
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Experience in school cafeterias beneficial

Physical and Work Environment

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, withstand heat, and stand for extended periods
• Work indoors and outdoors with staff, students, and the public
