About the job
The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist supports compliance with environmental regulations and management systems at a steel mill facility. The role ensures environmental permits and programs are managed appropriately and provides support across various operational and safety tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Support facility environmental compliance activities
- Manage documentation for permits, regulatory standards, and company programs
- Implement and update Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001
- Conduct data collection, sampling, and reporting for regulatory compliance
- Serve as on-site coordinator during environmental incidents
- Attend training, meetings, and conduct contractor audits
- Provide backup to the Safety Department and oversee safety initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related field required
- 4+ years’ experience in environmental compliance (7 preferred)
- Experience with air, water, and waste permitting and ISO 14001 preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Working Conditions
- Exposure to plant and mill environments
- Some lifting (up to 50 pounds), wearing safety gear, and exposure to environmental factors
